What Did You Do For Money When You Were 12?

When I was 12 years old, I had a paper route. Every day after school, I'd rush home to pick up my load of papers for the day and set out to lug them for a couple of miles, while trying to remember who wanted it in the mailbox, who inside the screen and who I could just toss up on the porch.

I had to deliver those papers 6 days a week, whether it was pouring rain, scorching hot, or a foot of snow on the ground.

Compare that to what today's 12 year old can do for money:

This site is run by a 12 year old named Zach, who left a comment on my previous post. He's obviously put some effort into the site, along with its promotion. He just managed to get me to visit and subscribe to his updates and from what he says on his site, he's getting 50-60 visitors a day.

Most telling is that many of his posts have comments from his visitors. That tells you people are reading his posts and getting involved, something that many blogs are lacking.

It's certainly a different world than it was when I was a kid. The days of paper routes and lemonade stands are over.

John, that is too much. Wow, thanks for posting about my site. As for the post, I have friends that take part in sports card selling. Although this may sound like something very bland, it is actually a million dollar industry. Thank you John.

Sincerely,
Zach
