An Interesting Look At Niche Marketing

One of the podcasts that I listen to regularly is TWiT - This Week In Tech. It's a computer and technology related podcast, which may or may not interest you. But one recent episode is worth listening to for anyone who is marketing to niche audiences.

TWiT Episode 133 featured a musician named Jonathan Coulton, who has created a loyal following on the internet. His songs target a niche audience, and they love his stuff. He started out by giving his music away and has managed to turn that into a profitable business, selling CD's, merchandise and selling out live concerts.

It sounds like what most internet marketers are shooting for, doesn't it? Taking a website with free content and converting the visitors into paying customers, whether through Adsense, selling your own products, lead generation or any other form of monetization.

The podcast episode was very interesting from a business point of view, so even if you're not "into" computers and technology stuff it's still worth the hour or so to listen to it.
