Another Day, Another Barrage Of Emails
I must be getting more cynical, the longer I'm in this business.
Some of the people whose opinions I used to respect are starting to really rub me the wrong way with some of the things they're promoting.
The "promotion of the day" today seems to be this Rich Jerk party at the Playboy Mansion.
I'm not even going to link to this one - the sales letter strikes me as a little too much even for the Rich Jerk. Full of thinly veiled profanity (replacing one letter of a word with a * doesn't make it any less offensive) and pictures of near nudity.
I've had emails from all kinds of people today, John Reese included. He's refusing to name the Rich Jerk (calling him the "Wealthy Idiot" instead) because he doesn't like his marketing tactics, but at the same time he's promoting the party in the Playboy Mansion.
This party is for charity, but after reading the sales page, I can't see what exact charity it's raising money for and it doesn't say just how much of the ticket sales (at $1,997 each) is going to be donated.
Maybe it's me, but if you're going to raise money for a charity, wouldn't you want to publicize the charity and help raise it's profile?
And come on, is this really necessary:
After all is said and done, I’m going to be writing an obscenely huge check for a charity that works tirelessly to help homeless and underprivileged people.
You know….Losers.
All the emails I've received today have made a point of saying they're not making any commission on this, they're merely passing along the information.
Well, I'll go out a limb here and make a prediction. I'm guessing there will be a recording made of the event and sometime in the next few months we're going to see the "Secret Underground Rich Jerk Playboy Party Tapes" released with the usual product launch fanfare - from all the same people who are pushing the party today.
I've yet to talk to anyone who's even interested in going, let alone actually paying to attend. How about you? Are you on the guestlist?
