Are You Using Facebook?
I've never been a big user of any social networking sites. I've got a Myspace profile that I set up to look around and test a few things, but I never really saw it as useful for me personally. All I ever got from it was a bunch of friend requests from beautiful women who would likely never give me the time of day if I met them in person
I signed up for Facebook a month or so back, mainly for the same reason - to check it out and see what all the buzz is about.
Well, over the last month I've come to understand why people call it Crackbook. I spend way too much time surfing around on it.
I've found people from high school, past jobs (ah, the good old days
), church youth groups and other places that I haven't seen or talked to in 20 years or more. And they're all chatting back and forth like it was just yesterday.
It's really opened my eyes to the power of these networks. Myspace probably had the same reach but whether it's because Facebook is more in tune with my style or I just happen to have come across people I know, it's much more useful to me.
If you're not on Facebook yet, I suggest you set up a profile and check it out. Just make sure you go through the privacy settings and set them to a level where you're comfortable.
After all, you may not want that guy or girl you dumped back in the 9th grade to track you down after all these years…
